Virginia Veterans Care Alliance Condemns Big Pharma for Threatening Veteran Access to Critical Hospital Care

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RICHMOND, VA — The Virginia Veterans Care Alliance today launched a statewide advocacy campaign urging lawmakers and the public to stand up against the escalating financial pressures imposed by large pharmaceutical companies. As Big Pharma continues to drive up prescription drug costs, Virginians are forced to absorb the financial blow, directly threatening the specialized care and vital resources that thousands of veterans and military families rely on every day.

Our hospitals are on the front lines of veteran care, providing essential rehabilitation, mental health services, and long-term support for those who have worn the uniform. Yet the chipping away at key programs like 340B by pharmaceutical corporations is squeezing these vital community safety nets. We cannot allow corporate profit margins to compromise the healthcare of the men and women who have sacrificed for our nation.

The Virginia Veterans Care Alliance campaign highlights the dangerous downstream economic and clinical effects of pharmaceutical price inflation. While hospitals work tirelessly to maintain open doors and comprehensive services for vulnerable populations across both urban centers and rural communities, the unchecked cost of essential medications drains necessary resources.

Drawing on the spirit of resilience that defines the veteran community, the Virginia Veterans Care Alliance is calling on state leaders to implement measures that rein in pharmaceutical costs, ensuring that access to quality hospital care remains a steadfast priority.
